The Ntenga Foundation Charity Race is a one-day event which offers Durbanites and South Africans a fun filled day of fitness, family time and great entertainment. Citizens from all walks of life come together in the true spirit of Ubuntu to celebrate life in the beautiful coastal city of Durban. On September 24 our city is the epitome of our Rainbow Nation as families, from all communities and cultural backgrounds come out in numbers to participate in what has become the biggest social charity event on the City of Durban's calendar.

Now in its ninth year the Ntenga Foundation Race continues to grow in popularity as the programme is packaged as a family outing. The success of the race has seen the multiple choices that provide a unique and affordable day out which includes the choice of a 5 km fun run and a 10km run/walk, Both events start at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, the 10 km going all the way to blue lagoon coming back on the promenade to meet up with the 5 fun walkers on the promenade next to Sun Coast casino.

The route is probably one of the best experiences as it meanders through the lush tropical grounds of the Sun Coast Casino which is where the 5km participants join the Race. The route follows Durban's famed Beach Front Promenade, widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful and panoramic beach front promenades in the world to end at one of Durban's most iconic assets, uShaka Marine World. With all this on offer to Durban citizens and visitors, The Ntenga Foundation Race, is an extraordinary marketing tool for Durban Tourism to entice even greater use Durban's tourist friendly facilities.

Conceptualised by Durban businessman and philanthropist, Siyanda Calvin Ntenga, the race is already regarded as the most unique mass charity event in KwaZulu Natal. Close on 5 000 social-runners, families and friends join together to enjoy this fun filled event which is open to all, irrespective of gender or age. Family participation is encouraged so much so that prams are encouraged to allow babies and toddlers to feel part of the festivities. But it is not just a family fun day in the sun for thousands of families. One of Ntenga's prime objectives has always been about the number of under privileged children who go to school without shoes. His concern for these children is the motivating factor behind this charity race.

The Ntenga Foundation Race has been so successful on many fronts that the Foundation plans to grow this annual event by encouraging more and more families to come together and celebrate the Heritage Day. The event has not only provided Durban with a unique social charity event and given Shoes for School to thousands of KZN children, it has also proven to be a major attraction for participating event partners including uShaka Marine World and Durban Tourism. The event showcases and rekindles interest in the facilities at Moses Mabhida Stadium as well as uShaka Marine World and fosters Durbanites' love of their magnificent beachfront.

Objectives:

• Over the next two years, The Ntenga Foundation Race aims to attract 10 000+ participants to grow local interest and attract participants from further afield to bring tourism spend into the city
• To promote use of Durban's tourist friendly facilities
• To encourage all citizens to adopt an active and a healthy lifestyle
• Promote social cohesion
• To raise sufficient funds to provide many more under-privileged children with Shoes for School
